Attention in children: how to extend study time

The stretch a child can focus for is roughly twice their age in minutes. Expecting 40 minutes from an eight-year-old is not realistic.

Plan the interval, not the duration

A 15-minute work + 5-minute break cycle delivers the same output as a single 45-minute block, with far less fatigue.

Clear the desk

Any object on the desk not belonging to the current subject steals attention. Even a pencil case is too much.

Move screens out of the study area

Even a silenced phone lowers performance when it is in the same room.
