Screen time: age-appropriate limits and a digital balance plan

The real issue with screen time is not the duration but what the duration replaces. If it replaces sleep, movement or conversation, it is too much.

A framework by age

30 minutes a day for ages 3–6, one hour for 6–10, and 1.5 hours for 10–14 is a reasonable starting point for free screen time. Homework and school content sit outside it.

Pick three screen-free zones

The dinner table, the bedroom and the car. Keeping these three screen-free removes most arguments about duration.
